“Massachusetts, the birthplace of public health, has long led the nation in disease-fighting crusades, vaccinating children at high rates and crafting antismoking campaigns exported around the world. But it ranks 36th when it comes to providing residents with fluoridated water,” a recent article in the Boston Globe reports.
Community water fluoridation is a safe and effective preventive measure that can easily be added to public water supplies. Fluoride keeps tooth enamel strong and prevents tooth decay and the serious problems that occur with dental infections. With an average cost of $.50 per person per year, water fluoridation also saves millions in dental treatment and insurance costs.
As the article explains, some groups have fought fluoridation in their community under the misconception that there are health risks associated with fluoridation. However, sixty years of scientific research show overwhelmingly that there are no health risks associated with the consumption of optimally fluoridated water. Over 170 million people have been drinking fluoridated water for over 60 years. Trusted community and professional health authorities such as the US Surgeon General, the American Medical Association, The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Cancer Society, and the American Dental Association recognize the public health benefits of community water fluoridation.
In order to keep our communities healthy, people all across the Commonwealth should have access to this safe, cost-effective preventive measure. To learn more about how to stand up for oral health, visit www.hcfama.org/oralhealth.

This is a shameful article. If fluoride has a “topical” benefit only, why are we being forced to INGEST it?? Fluoride is extremely toxic to humans (more toxic than lead). Though there is plenty of evidence of its relationship to disease, our government organizations (ADA, CDC, FDA, AMA etc) do their best to twist and ignor it. I’d urge anyone to research this for yourself!! Aspartame, MSG, and Heavy metals are also “accidentally” poisoning the masses. The government can’t afford to have so many baby boomers on SS benefits. Yes, the world is morbidly overpopulated, but there must be a better way? Disease limits our lifespan, and is far more profitable than health, so clearly, Fluoride is a win-win for government, BigPharma, and the NWO.
You don’t really know what your government has been up to. Fluoridation of the water is neither safe NOR EFFECTIVE. Brushing one’s teeth regularly is a far better way to create dental health.
This article motivated me to look into the fluoride content of the water where I live. After finding out the water quality in my neighborhood I will only drink filtered water. Fluoride or not.

More than 3200 professionals (including over 280 dentists) urge the US Congress to stop water fluoridation citing scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks. See statement: http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html
Also, eleven Environmental Protection Agency employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people. Many NYS communities rejected or stopped fluoridation, including Albany. Approximately, 80 US communities rejected fluoridation since 2008. The CDC reports that 225 less communities adjusted for fluoride between 2006 and 2008.
The Fluoride Action Network is working with Dr. Mercola to educate legislators about the health hazards associated with water fluoridation which isn’t revealed to them by those lobbying in favor of fluoridation: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/07/03/paul-connett-interview.aspx
