Public Health Council Meeting Wednesday

The Public Health Council will have its September meeting on Wednesday, September 9th beginning at 9am at 250 Washington Street. Click here for the agenda.

The Director of the Office of Patient Protection will be doing a presentation. The OPP, which doesn’t get near enough of the attention it deserves, is a vital layer of protection for consumers in Massachusetts. The office was created by the Managed Care Patient Bill of Rights legislation in 2000, which HCFA worked hard to pass. When a managed care plan denies a claim, they help people navigate the internal review process, and then adjudicate an appeal process that includes an independent medical review of the case. Last year their external review process heard around 250 cases, and reversed the insurer’s decision about half of the time. You can read more about the office at mass.gov/dph/opp

Also, the October 14th meeting has been moved to October 21. Same location and time.
