We are in even bigger trouble once the U.S. government rolls out its so-called National Health Care Reform which is to be based on the failed MA plan.

Pundits rave about the 97 percent insured (false number - maybe 97 percent of the 86 percent who file a tax return - big difference). Having an insurance card doesn't mean one has access to affordable, quality, equitable care. It merely means one is paying a premium to an insurance company that is probably not affordable for that person.

It is obvious that those running the country (and those running MA) aren't interested in health care for all because they know this. But, they are in the pockets of the insurers who are their masters. Insurers will also be in charge of cutting health care costs. And will the insurers change their modus operandi? No. The national plan will be dependant on them, so what is congress going to do, fire them?

We don't take stupid pills. We get it. What will we do about it? That remains to be seen.

Once people realize that the national plan has nothing to do with access to quality, affordable, equitable health care, all hell will break loose. This will be the tipping point of the palpatable anger that is growing every day over the bailouts, bonuses, banks, Wall St. and no end to the wars.

Unfortunately, the American people will not be privy to the ugly details of the MA plan gone national until it hits them in the face because the U.S. Congress is following the MA playbook - all is being done behind closed doors - the public hears a few fuzzy sound bytes about affordable care and subsidized for those who can't afford to pay and the tired Mitt Romney piece: it's the same as mandated auto insurance.

I was rather stunned and disgusted to hear Obama come out with the latter during his recent virtual town hall meeting. I thought he was smarter than that - which doesn't mean I trust him - I don't.

The national "fix" for the health care crisis, based on what I've heard from Baucus and Grassley and knowing how regressive the MA plan is, sounds more like The Final Solution than National Health Care Reform.

This is a dramatic illustration of the multiplier effects of recession. Not only does the requirement that the state budget remain in balance result in layoffs of state employees and workers at vendor agencies, which exacerbates the recessionary spiral; it also eliminates investments to produce a healthier population and workforce in the future, reducing economic production and increasing health care costs, not to mention the direct human consequences.

Unfortunately, the political discourse in our country, and our state, does not take sufficient account of these basic facts. We're in big trouble.
