This week we celebrate Covered the Uninsured Week (March 22-28), organized by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Here in Massachusetts, we are ahead of the curve, with an additional 432,000 people insured and the country’s lowest uninsurance rate – just 2.6% — we can’t say this enough!
Commemorating the week, RWJF has released a state-by-state analysis (.pdf) of health coverage trends, here (.pdf). The report compares averaged data from the U.S. Census Bureau from 1994-1996 with numbers from 2006-2007. The report finds that most states increased uninsurance rates over this time; according to the Census data, we decreased by 2.9%, from 11.8% to 8.9%. We have much more recent, state data on our uninsured, with slightly different methodology. Either way, we continue to move in the right direction.
